What is HIFU?

High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) is a completely non-invasive treatment designed to lift, tone & tighten the skin. This procedure is your next best thing to a surgical face and body lift, without a knife in sight.

How HIFU works?

During treatment, ultrasound is micro-focused below the skin’s surface to cause cellular friction and precise, pinpoint heating. Like a magnifying glass focusing sunlight, heat is only generated at the focal point, leaving the skin’s surface and intervening tissue unaffected. The tissue at the focal point is heated to around 65°C, causing immediate collagen contraction and denaturation, which initiates superior collagen synthesis. This results not only in an instant lift but over the next 90-180 days the wound healing response stimulates long-term tissue remodeling. This leads to further lifting and tightening, with results that can last a year or more.

Why HIFU?

HIFU is the only non-invasive treatment that can specifically target the deep foundation below the skin that is addressed in cosmetic surgery without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin. It is also the only procedure to use ultrasound imaging, which allows us to see the layers of tissue we target during treatment and ensure the energy is deposited precisely to where it will be most effective. HIFU Therapy uses ‘sound energy’, which has unique properties that allow it to bypass the surface of the skin to treat depths not matched by any other non-invasive cosmetic device. Lasers on the other hand rely on ‘light energy’, which cannot reach deeper skin layers at an optimal temperature – so laser treatments typically only treat superficial skin.

Treatment Time

The length will depend on the area being treated. A face and neck procedure typically takes 60-90min, while a decolletage may take approximately 30min. Most clients may only need one treatment per year; however, this may be based on the degree of skin laxity, the biological response to ultrasound energy, and the individual’s collagen-building process. Skin collagen firmness and elasticity continue to deteriorate, future maintenance treatments can help keep pace with the body’s natural ageing process.

Common Treatment Areas

  • Intense non-surgical face and body lift.

  • Lifting and sharpening the jowl area and jawline (say goodbye to that unwanted double chin!)

  • Lifting the brow.

  • Reducing excess skin on upper eyelids.

  • Contouring loose skin around the stomach from childbirth or weight loss.

FAQ:

Is HIFU safe?

The procedure has been proven safe in several clinical studies, and there have been many successful treatments performed around the world.

Is there any down time?

There is no downtime from the procedure. You will be able to return to your normal activities straight away.

How long until I see results?

Some clients may see immediate effects; however, the optimal outcome of lifting and toning will take place over the following 2-3 months. During this time old collagen is replaced with new collagen that has a higher level of elasticity.

Is HIFU painful?

You may experience slight discomfort while the ultrasound energy is delivered.

Does HIFU have any side effects?

You may experience slight redness, which may last for an hour, and some clients may experience minor swelling, tingling, or tenderness. These symptoms are temporary.
